Book Presentation: FREE, FAIR AND ALIVE. The Insurgent Power of the Commons (14 september, Brussel)

Of het nu burgers zijn die een energiecoöperatieve op poten zetten, een cohousing project starten of samen zorg dragen voor een publiek park, onze samenleving bevat tal van positieve initiatieven. In deze commons produceren of beheren burgers samen wat ze waardevol vinden en zelf willen voor zorgen, op basis van eigen regels. Ze nemen de toekomst in eigen handen en tonen dat naast staat en markt, commons een derde essentiële pijler zijn om zaken te organiseren in onze samenleving. Hoe deze commons kunnen bijdragen aan een duurzame samenleving daarover gaat het nieuwe boek van Silke Helfrich (D) en David Bollier (US). We zijn met plezier ingegaan op de vraag van de auteurs om het boek mee voor te stellen in Brussel.

Hoe deze nieuwe golf van commons kan bijdragen aan een duurzame samenleving is een prangende vraag. Deze vraag staat dan ook centraal in dit nieuwe boek. Silke Helfrich (D) en David Bollier (US) vertellen je er meer over op 14/09 in Brussel. Het boek gerealiseerd met de steun van de Heinrich Böll Foundation, leest als een culturele kritiek en dient als een praktisch handboek voor commoning.

Whether it are people establishing an energy cooperative, a cohousing project or taking care of a public park, our society is full of positive initiatives. In these commons, people work together to produce or manage what they find valuable and want to take care of, on the basis of their own decided rules. They take the future in their own hands and show that next to state and market, commons are a third essential way of organizing things in society.

How these new wave of commons can contribute to a sustainable society is an urgent question. It is at the heart of the new book of Silke Helfrich (D) and David Bollier (US), of which we are proud to present the English version in Brussels. The book, realized with the support of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, reads as a cultural critique, a table-pounding political treatise, and practical playbook for commoning!
